P.Lankesh is one of the famous writers of the modern school of literature. Born at Konagahalli in Shimoga district as the fifth child to his parents. He known for a style peculier to him in the modern Kannada literature . He received Primary education at Konagahalli and Harnahalli, Secondary education at D.V.S. High school & Intermidiate at the then Intermidiate college [Sahyadri College ] Shimoga. Received his Honors degree from the Central College Bengaluru. He studied M.A at the Maharaja College Mysore University and entered teaching career at Sahyadri College Shimoga and later joined Bengaluru University in 1962.

CONTRIBUTIONS, AWARDS & HONOURS

His first literary work, a collection of short stories " Kereya Neeranu Kerege Chelli" was published in 1963.

P.Lankesh has to his credit, several shortstories,novels and poetry of his own and translations from the west.

P. Lankesh was a renouned film director and has to his credit some of the award winner films like "Pallavi", "Anuroopa","Ellindalo Bandavaru" and "Khandavide ko Mamsavide ko". etc. He was adjudged to be the best director for his "Pallvai" and was conferred the best feature film award in 1976.

In 1980, he started a weekly tabloid namely LANKESH PATRIKE which could win over the confidence of the people of the land. For the first time, in the history of the Kannada journalism this weekly brought a new dimension to it. As a stubborn journalist he even succeeded in changing the then Government. P.Lankesh a staunch socialst in faith breathed his last in January 2000. His eldest daugter Miss.Gowri Lankesh has become the successor editor of the weekly. His second daughter Miss. Kavita Lankesh has been a genious and following the footstep of her father as a film director and has bagged a natioal award for the film of her direction "Deveeri" which is based on the novel "Akka" by Lankesh.
