Delhi Climate

Delhi witnesses a climate that is highly hot in the summers and extremely chilling in the winter. Delhi does not have its own climate and is largely influenced by the changing weather of the neighbouring states. As the heat waves from Rajasthan reaches the Delhi region, summer arrives in the city along with immense dryness, the maximum temperature going up to 46 degree centigrade. The cold waves from Himalayas brings the winter in Delhi by dropping the temperature immensely. July and September enjoys the breezy showers of monsoon giving Delhi people a relief from the scorching heat of the summer. Getting There

By Air

Delhi is one of the best connected cities of South Asia and is the most important gateway for India. New Delhi has two main terminals one for domestic and one for international flights. Indira Gandhi International Airport connects Delhi to virtually all parts of the world where 35 airline services operates their international flights on a regular basis. All major airlines of India including Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Sahara, Kingfisher Airways, Jagson Airlines and Air Deccan fly their flights to all the state capitals and other major destinations of India. Air India too operates domestic flights to some of the metropolitan cities of India from Delhi. Both the airports have restaurants, restrooms, snackbars, business centre, pre-paid taxi counters, pay phone facility, foreign currency exchange counter and duty free shops.

By Rail

New Delhi is conveniently connected by trains to all the metros, state capitals and most of the important tourist and trade destinations of the country. The super fast Rajdhani Express connects Delhi to all the major state capitals of India and Shatabdi Express, an air conditioned seating train is important train for short distance journey. New Delhi Railway Station situated at only a 10 minutes walking distance from Connaught Place, is the major junction of the capital and all major trains towards the East, West and South start and finish their journey here. Nizamuddin Railway Station services most of the south bound trains. The famous Taj Express also begin its journey here. Delhi Cantonment Railway Station at about 5 km distance from the international airport is the boarding point of famous luxury train - Palace On Wheels.

By Road

Delhi is well connected by road with major cities. It is linked by bus services of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and state road transport corporations of neighbouring states to all important cities and destinations in North India. The distance of some famous destinations from Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Kashmiri Gate are : Agra-203 km, Allahabad-603 km, Almora-373, Bharatpur-190 km, Chandigarh -238 km, Jaipur-258 km, Shrinagar-376 km, Udaipur-663 km and Varanasi-738 km.

DTC runs Delhi-Lahore (Pakistan)-Delhi bus service from Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal near Delhi Gate every Tuesday and Friday.

Local Transport

Delhi houses the maximum number of motor vehicles in the country. Though Delhi people prefer to travel by own vehicle, but DTC offers a very good bus service inside the city as well as connecting it to Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad on a regular basis.

A recent addition to the capital's public transport system is The Metro. The Metro train run from 6 am in the morning till 10 pm at night and connects Shahdara to Rihala with a frequency of train varying from 6 minute to 15 minutes.
